This book came out of a box today, and I thought it was rather interesting given the recent 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion. The explosion must have leveled a vast number of the oldest buildings in the city, so it is easy to imagine the concern shown by this publication to preserve those that had survived to Canada’s centennial year (1967). This copy is a sixth printing from 1973, and in it, there is the sad note that four of the buildings listed in the original printing had since been razed.
This is a great little book for anyone interested in Canadian architecture and in the history of one of Canada’s picturesque capitals.
