The mark on these two Rosenthal side plates indicate manufacture between 1919 and 1935; we think probably about 1930 would be right.
It’s difficult to capture the rich iridescence of lustreware on camera. These are almost over the top in combined effects: the lustreware glaze, sponging, hand-painted fruit and butterfly, and the intricate band of gilding at the edges. They look like they are fresh from the store, with no flaws visible, no wear from use that we can see. Together they make a lovely pairing!
